An Important Update from Lumos Arts Academy

 

After eight years of serving students and families, Lumos Arts Academy has made the difficult decision to close and will not reopen for the 2026–2027 school year in its current form.

We are deeply grateful to our students, families, faculty, staff, and community for being part of the Lumos journey.

Information regarding student records, transcripts, and potential educational options currently being explored is available below.

Potential Educational Options

While Lumos Arts Academy, in its previous form, including electives and in-person classes, will no longer operate, we remain committed to serving students through two educational options:

  • K–5 Microschool - Lumos Elementary Microschool

An idea has emerged to create a one-room Micro School for students in grades K–5, led by Robin Payne. Families with students in these grades will be contacted directly by Ms. Payne with additional information about this potential opportunity.

  • 6–12 Online/Lab School - Lumos Learning Lab

We are working to develop an online/lab school model for students in grades 6–12. This model would provide an online curriculum with a teacher/mentor available to monitor student progress, offer support, and assist students in a computer lab-style classroom environment.

Lumos Learning Lab is a hybrid learning program for students in grades 6 through 12. Students complete an accredited online curriculum at their own pace, and they do it in a room with an adult who is paying attention. It is not a traditional classroom. There is no daily lecture. Students drive their own progress, and we make sure they do not drive it alone.

Here is what that means.

Your Pace
Students move through coursework at the pace that fits them. Traditional schools lock every student into the same timeline, and that does not work for everyone. Whether it is acceleration, making up credits, or slowing down to build real understanding, we set the goals together, and students move at the pace required to get there.

Our Support
A dedicated on-site learning coach monitors progress daily, intervenes when a student stalls, and coordinates subject tutoring. An instructional aide is on site as well, so there is never only one adult in the room.

Our Community
Students are not isolated behind a screen. Once a week, every student is on campus for a structured seminar. We discuss real questions, critique each other's work, and account for progress out loud. This is where students learn to think critically, hear a viewpoint they disagree with, and take feedback that makes them better. It is required, and it is not optional for anyone. We will be exploring various topics, including but not limited to important life skills, character education, interpersonal skills, beyond high school, setting and obtaining goals, and other important real life topics to help students succeed in the world.
